5.90 Acre Site

Big "D" was a 2.4 million dollar project that consisted of a 5.90 acre site, with 4.2 acres of concrete to support the day to day traffic of 18 wheelers and automobiles arriving and utilizing the services provided by the tenants. It also included a 7,400 square foot structural steel building fully finished and ready to operate as a truck stop and auto travel plaza incorporating a 3,000 sq.ft. fully stocked convenience store that utilizes 8 MPD fuel pumps for automotive travelers along with 3 high flow diesel fuel pumps for 18 wheelers and 1 low flow diesel fuel pump for automotive diesel vehicles. A 1,200 square foot dining area that is operated by 2 onsite restaurants that utilize an additional 700 square feet for preparation of food. It also includes an additional 144 square foot bar-b-que and seafood boiling room out back. The final 2,500 square feet is utilized as a video poker casino and bar.

This project proceeded under the authority of another general contractor who was removed by the owners, then taken over by one of the owners with his own contracting company, and turned over to Hatch Construction Services to handle the management of the construction process as well as all of the undefined design aspects. Although we jumped into a rocky situation our owner held true to his word to the owners to see the construction through to completion as quick as possible. Although wrought with problems such as no definite floor plan, problems with delivery of the building and 28 documented rain days that went unused, we were able to accomplish the task on time and on budget.
